September, 2010
Dear View Ridge Families:
Hello! A big welcome and welcome back to all the new and returning View Ridge families! We hope you had a fun and relaxing summer and are energized for the 2010-2011 school year. We want to bring your attention to some important information regarding the first weeks of school, the View Ridge PTA, and some important dates to keep in mind. First of all, please pay particular attention to the “Yellow Sheet” in your first week packet. This sheet will be used for a variety of purposes, including the school directory, signing up for website access, PTA Membership, ordering yearbooks, and more. It is extremely helpful to the PTA if this information is submitted to the office soon after the first day of school. Thanks in advance for your attention!
Secondly, View Ridge is blessed to have an incredibly active PTA. In fact, View Ridge earned a Platinum Award in 2009-2010 for increasing membership by over 20 percent, giving VR the largest PTA in Seattle Public Schools, if not the state! Way to go! The mission of the VRPTA is to support View Ridge students, teachers, parents, and staff through community building. The three areas we will be focusing on this year are community, communication, and commitment. Be on the lookout for a variety of community builders, whether it is the fall picnic, BooRidge, the Pancake Breakfast, or a variety of other events. We plan to utilize the View Ridge website (www.viewridgeschool.org) in terms of our first line of communication this year. Be sure to check the website often in order to stay current with the many events and activities occurring at school.
Finally, we will focus on commitment through volunteer participation at both the classroom and larger school level as well as monetary support through such things as the Annual Appeal and a variety of fundraisers. The VRPTA supports a number of committees and activities ranging from Fourth Grade Camp at Camp Orkila to Family Support and Staff Appreciation. We also contribute to our school’s budget to directly support our classrooms and the education of all View Ridge children.
We want to make sure you feel informed from the get-go and know who to contact with any questions. A calendar of events is included in your first week packet, but we want to bring your attention to a few events that are fast approaching:
• Kindergarten Curriculum Night – Tuesday, 9/14 at 6 PM
• New Parent Orientation – Tuesday, 9/14 from 7-8 PM in the VR Lunchroom
• First – Fifth Grade Curriculum Night – Tuesday, 9/21
• First General PTA Meeting – Tuesday, 10/5 at 6:45 PM in the VR Lunchroom
Feel free to contact either of us with any questions regarding VRPTA or View Ridge in general. We are excited to get to know you and your children this year!
Sincerely,
Jen Anderson and Pian Lee
VRPTA Co-Presidents 2010-2011
