Thanks to all of the students and volunteers for making our first Mix it Up lunch a success. We received some great feedback from students and staff about how this lunchroom experience was a positive way to break down some social barriers in the lunchroom. We remain open to your feedback and look forward to anyone who would like to join the Parent Equity Committee in organizing future programming and support within our school.
The Teaching Tolerance website is a great resource and has some additional information on Mix It Up! day including follow-up conversations you can continue to have with your student(s). Some targeted conversations about the lunchroom that we liked include:
- What is the difference between a friendship group and a clique?
- How can cliques make some kids feel left out?
- How can you include other kids in your friendship group?
