SAVE THE DATE! Friday May 17, 5:30-7:30
WHAT is OtterCon? A special night of celebrating comics, graphic novels, gaming, and all the wonderful ways we love and can learn from pop culture. We will also do comic-related art in Ms. Haven’s classes, comic writing and drawing activities in classrooms, and have an author visit for grades 2-4 that week.
There will be electronic and board game stations, Pokémon, Magic the Gathering, and D&D instruction rooms and tournaments. Art making stations and displays, displays made by students, fun photo-ops, lots of visitors from the Seattle comic community, and a bunch of Super Secret Special Guests!
Cosplay is an important and fun part of comicons, so everyone is welcome to dress up as a favorite hero or villain, parents included! This may simply be a Star Wars t-shirt, your old Halloween costume, or something special you invent.
Kids have been learning in library classes this week about OtterCon, and have been getting inspired to do their own presentations. Kids have a chance to do a display or poster about any comic or book related topic they feel passionate about. Kids can display their own art, create a superhero, make a collage, share a collection, or invent a game.
PARENTS are welcome to make a display, too! Do you have a big collection of Star Wars action figures? Metal lunchboxes from the 80’s? Huge comic collection? Consider making your own display and bringing it in! Like-minded friends will be thrilled to see it!
We will need some parent volunteers for the big night, so check out our Signup Genius if you’d like to get involved:
