Every year the Washington State Legislature makes very important decisions about our education system, from school funding to mental health resources to graduation requirements. This year’s 60-day session kicked off yesterday.
So what can you do?
- Sign-up for action alerts from the Washington State PTA on key bills and priority issues. Weighing-in takes just a few minutes and is essential so that legislators know what’s most important to our families and community.
- Contact your legislator about issues and legislation that is important to you. The View Ridge advocacy team will be adding templates and alerts to the website throughout session.
- Tune in for hearings on key bills in the House Education or Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committees. For example, tomorrow, Wednesday, January 12 at 10:30 a.m the Senate Committee will be hearing SB 5563 which relates to funding stabilization around enrollment, a key priority for the Washington State PTA (watch here on TVW). On Thursday, January 13 at 1:30 p.m. the House Committee will have a work session on the Public Health and Mental Health Crises in the Education System (watch here on TVW).
- Passionate about a particular issue? Consider signing up to testify or submit written testimony.
