Hello fellow Otters! This week, I’m inviting you to the Equity Committee meeting. Join a group of motivated parents, teachers, staff, and caregivers as we discuss how to make View Ridge more welcoming and inclusive for all. Tune in Wednesday 11/11 at 7:30 PM to share your ideas or learn how you can help! (EquiTeas will be open forums on the first Wednesday of the month, Equity Committee meetings are second Wednesdays).  Email Shannon Otto for link and password to meeting.
Did you know that November is Native American Heritage Month? Now is a great time to explore the rich history of the peoples who inhabited this land before immigrants and colonists came. We live on Duwamish land here in King County. Try including a land acknowledgement at your holiday celebration! Let it spark a conversation about the history of Native American oppression and the ways Duwamish culture is still alive in our area. Check out these resources: National Geographic; KidsDiscover; and Duwamish Tribe.
One of my favorite organizations is Real Rent Duwamish, in association with the Coalition of Anti-Racist Whites (CARW). If you’re interested in taking action in support of the Duwamish, check this out!
