Hello first grade and fourth grade families,
For the next week your child’s classroom will be asked once again to collect food for View Ridge Elementary’s weekend backpack food program. Starting last year, this is a program where our own school community collects food to be delivered to kids in need within our very own NE Seattle area. There are children in our community that rely on food they receive at school during the week and families work hard to keep those kiddos fueled over the weekend. To help kids return to school Monday mornings feeling their best our school helps provide a small pack filled with tuna, milk, soup, oatmeal, dried fruit, crackers, applesauce and fresh fruit for most weekends during the school year. For the donation/collection week of Monday, January 29 to Tuesday, February 6 the following will be the food item your child’s class will focus their donation efforts on that will provide the program enough food to fill packs for 4 weeks. Your family/child’s participation is simply voluntary but highly encouraged.
O’Rourke 75 Applesauce (individualized cups or pouches)
Cho 75 Applesauce (individualized cups or pouches)
Platter 75 Applesauce (individualized cups or pouches)
Kelly/Moen 75 Raisin or Craisin boxes
Adsit 75 Raisin or Craisin boxes
Doran 100 Oatmeal packets
Dahl 100 Oatmeal packets
Please keep in mind that ALL of the items are squeezed into a bag small enough to only fill a portion of a child’s personal backpack. Any bulk items donated are donated to the food bank and not used for this program. Individually packaged items are required.
If you choose to further participate, Wednesday, February 7 is when we will be packing up the food right afterschool in the cafeteria. We’ll be packing enough for 54 packs to cover 18 kids for 3 weeks and we invite anyone who can help. Kids included. The University Food Bank will be providing the milk, tuna and soup for our packs this year.
This is such an amazing program and the children on the receiving end light up each week when they collect their packs.
Thank you first grade and fourth grade parents, families and students for contributing to this year’s backpack food program at View Ridge!
With much appreciation,
