Volunteers are an integral part of View Ridge – between PTA committee positions, room parents and classroom volunteers, over 125 parents volunteer significant amounts of time each year to our school and kids. As a local PTA unit, we present a Golden Acorn Award each year to a volunteer in recognition of his/her dedication and service to children and youth. Since the beginning of this program, more than 44,000 Golden Acorns have been presented to volunteers throughout Washington State. A contribution in the name of the recipient(s) is made by the honoring PTA to the Washington State PTA Scholarship program. From these contributions, WSPTA is able to provide grants to freshmen students entering post-secondary education.
Like our parent volunteers, our teachers and staff also contribute hundreds of hours outside class time each year to make the elementary experience great. Each year, the PTA presents the Joan Platt “Awesome Otter” Award to a View Ridge teacher or staff member for going above and beyond as a member of the school community. Recipients are honored on the plaques that hang in the hallway and in the main office.
Please help us continue this great tradition by nominating a parent and/or staff member for these awards. Submit nominations by Friday, May 4 to Jill Yamagiwa (vicepresident@viewridgeschool.org). Please provide a brief explanation of their extraordinary work and why they stand out. Winners will be acknowledged at the Tuesday, May 15 PTA General Meeting.
